1. The promoter of the competition is Ackermans, a division of Pepkor Trading (Pty) Ltd (“the Promoter”).
2. The name of the competition is the “Heritage Day Competition” (“the Competition”).
3. The Competition will run from 24 September – 27 September 2026 (both days included) (“the Competition Period”).
4. By entering the Competition and/or accepting any prize (if you are a winner), you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
5. The Competition is open to all participants within the Republic of South Africa that are South African citizens (in possession of a valid South African ID book or card or birth certificate) and South African residents (in possession of a valid South African permanent residency permit). You are not eligible to participate in this Competition if:
5.1. You are a director, member, partner, employee, agent, or consultant of the Pepkor group of companies, its affiliates/divisions/subsidiaries or any other person who supplies goods or services in connection with the Competition.
5.2. You are a spouse, life partner, parent, child or sibling, immediate family member, business partner or associate of the persons specified above.
6. Entry is free and participants may enter only once.
7. Participants stand a chance to win 1 of 2 Ackermans vouchers valued at R500 each (“the Prize”). There will be two winners, with each winner receiving one R500 Ackermans voucher.
8. To enter the Competition, participants must, during the Competition Period:
8.1. Comment on the Competition post on Instagram stating how they say “hello” in their mother tongue;
8.2. Tag someone whom they would love to teach their home language; and
8.3. Follow @ackermans_za on Instagram.
9. The winners will be selected by means of a randomly computer operated draw.
10. By accepting the Prize (if you are a winner), you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
11. Ackermans reserves the right to disqualify any user who enters using false information or by robotic, automated or like means.
12. All Prizes in this Competition are not transferable or exchangeable for cash.
13. The draw for the winners will be conducted on 28 September 2026.
14. Winners will be selected by a random draw and will be notified via Instagram Direct Message. If a winner does not respond within 3 business days, an alternative winner will be drawn.
15. The vouchers are virtual and will be sent via SMS to the mobile number confirmed by each winner.
16. Ackermans do not accept responsibility or liability for any loss or damage and will also not be responsible or liable for any further expenses or fees required for the purpose of using, applying, or enjoying the Prize won in this Competition.
17. The winners give Ackermans and its authorised agents consent to use their names for publicity purposes, unless refused.
18. The Promoter reserves the right to vary, suspend, postpone, or terminate the Competition and any prizes, or any aspect thereof, for any reasons whatsoever and without notice. In such event, you hereby waive any rights or expectations which you may have against the Promoter and acknowledge that you will not have any recourse or claim of any nature against the Promoter.
19. Your privacy is important to the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies, and they will use all reasonable efforts to ensure that any information, including personal information, provided by you, or which is collected from you, is processed in a secure and compliant manner. For more information, please refer to our Privacy Statement.
20. You agree to provide Pepkor with accurate and current information and to maintain and update such information when necessary. The information collected by Pepkor may be used to send you information about products, services, and special offers of the various companies in the Pepkor group that may be of interest or value to you. The Promoter and other companies may also process the information in the Pepkor group, any of their operators, agents, and sub-contractors (who may be outside South Africa) on the condition that they will do so in a compliant manner, which includes maintaining the confidentiality of such information.
21. You acknowledge that any information supplied to the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies in terms of these Terms and Conditions is provided voluntarily.
22. By submitting any information to the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies in any form, you further acknowledge that such conduct constitutes unconditional, specific, and voluntary consent to the processing of such information by the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies under any applicable law in the manner contemplated above, which consent shall, in the absence of any written objection received from you, be indefinite and/or for the period otherwise required in terms of any applicable law.
23. Unless you have consented, the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies will not sell, exchange, transfer, rent or otherwise make available any personal information about you (such as name, address, email address, telephone or fax number) to other parties and you indemnify the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies from any unintentional disclosures of such information to unauthorised persons.
24. Should you believe that the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies have utilised your personal information contrary to applicable law, you shall first resolve any concerns with the Promoter and the Pepkor group of companies. If you are not satisfied with such a process, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
25. You can choose to be excluded from direct marketing by notifying the Promoter in writing or by registering a block on any registry which the Promoter is bound by law to recognise. The Promoter will not charge you a fee to update this request on their systems. The Promoter will give effect to any changes requested by you as soon as reasonably possible.
