Ackermans corporate social investment

Ackermans is committed to doing business responsibly and conducting ourselves in ways that earn the trust and respect of our employees, customers and communities within which we operate.

In the spirit of Ububele, we at Ackermans believe we can all make a difference through acts of kindness and generosity, with a focus on the areas where we have the most influence – developing and investing in our employees, getting involved in our local communities and taking simple steps towards reducing our environmental footprint.

Our CSI investment initiatives are focused on three areas:

Community

The Ububele programme provides our staff members with opportunities to help uplift our local communities by using their skills, time and resources.

Employees

We believe that true corporate social investment starts at home, and are committed to the personal development of all our employees, by providing a range of services to nurture and invest in them.

Environment

Ackermans has the power to make a positive impact on the environment by taking steps to be eco-friendly both at home and in the workplace, through methods like recycling, re-using, and saving water to name a few.

Messages of love and hope for Nelson Mandela

Our Phadimas at the Ackermans Kuils River Distribution Centre came together in true South African spirit to honour our beloved Madiba. In a quest to unite their individual positive thoughts and well wishes they crafted a balloon chain, symbolising our rainbow nation that he inspired. Even from his sickbed, Madiba can unite our nation. We salute you, Tata Madiba.

Ackermans plans to cut its electricity bill by half

This year, Ackermans plans to adopt a new outlook on electricity consumption and cut its energy usage by as much as 49% by the end of 2013.

Project Swatt, as this energy-saving initiative is known, was launched in 2012 when it came to light that Ackermans’ energy usage was equal to the electricity needed to power 7 619 houses. Since the project’s inception, Ackermans has already managed to reduce electricity consumption in its head office by 10% – already a substantial contribution to the protection of our planet’s natural resources.

Ackermans further plans to expand its electricity-saving initiatives by replacing its in-store lighting with the latest in energy-efficient innovations, and monitoring electricity usage via online electricity meters. Coinciding with the global Earth Hour movement, where people around the world switch off their lights between 20:30 and 21:30, these initiatives are set to assist behaviour management and create on-going awareness for the critical importance of saving electricity and preserving our environment for future generations.

2012 brings joy to many

During 2012, various business units within Ackermans, as well as other employees, took time out of busy schedules to really bring the Ububele spirit to life. We painted, cleaned, planted and decorated in local communities and in doing so brought joy and a massive change to the lives of others. To experience some of the magic, click on the links below:
